Welcome to Week 6!

Welcome to another busy week at NES. Progress repors, Early Release, APTT, Night of the Stars - check it all out below!

Heroes' Day

Monday, September 11 is Heroes' Day to honor those who perished in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2021. Our flags will be flown half mast.

Out of Field Notifications

Out of Field Notifications were sent home with students on Friday, September 8. If your child’s teacher is currently out of field or a long term substitute teacher, you should find the letter in your child’s take home folder.

Progress Report Day

Progress Report Day is Wednesday, September 13. Please be on the lookout for your child’s progress report in their take home folder. This is a good time to check your child’s Skyward account to make sure there are no missing assignments. If you would like to get access to Skyward, please contact Mrs. Cathy Storey, our data processor, from 7-3 to get your login information.

School Advisory Council Meeting

Our first SAC meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 14 at 4 PM. We are still looking for interested parties to join our voting SAC membership! If you would like to be on the SAC this year, please reach out to Dr. Robinson at robinsont@okee.k12.fl.us

Friday is Early Release Day!

Friday, September 15 is an Early Release day. Students’ dismissal starts at 11:30 AM.

Special areas teachers will be hosting school-wide events on selected Early Release days to make things even more fun at NES. Students who are exhibiting good attendance and do not have missing assignments and are invited to attend. Students who have missing work will be asked to stay in classrooms to complete their work. This week’s event is Volleyball - Teachers vs 5th Grade All Stars.

APTT Meetings

APTT (Academic Parent Teacher Team) meetings are scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, September 15. Student score reports from STAR (K-2) and F.A.S.T. assessments are shared with families at that time along with a review of other students’ performance data this year. Each grade level offers two meeting times as follows:

  • September 15, 1:00 PM
  • September 15, 2:15 PM

All meetings take place in homeroom teachers’ classrooms.

Night of the Stars Awards

Students who received a Level 5 on their 2022-2023 FAST ELA or Math, or NGSS Science assessment will be recognized in our annual Night of the Stars awards ceremony on Friday, September 15. Students received their invites during the last week of August.

Last call for Chromebook Insurance!

Chromebook insurance information was sent home with students at the beginning of the school year. All forms and payments are due by September 15.

State Assessment Results

Students in grades 3-5 have now concluded their first round of state assessments. Some students in grades K-2 are still working on these tests as they test individually or in small groups. Families can access scores through the Family Portal. If your child tested prior to this week, you should have received a STAR Assessment report in your child’s take home folder.

NES Shirts

Just a reminder that our new T-shirts are in! If you pre-ordered one, you may pick them up at our front office. The shirts are $15. Please have an exact amount as we may not have change on site. There are a few extras in each size for families that did not pre-order. :)

Fridays are our spirit days and we encourage eveyone to wear our school shirts!

PBIS Reward Days

At the conclusion of each grading period students have an opportunity to join the Positive Behavior and Intervention Support (PBIS) reward event. Students must be in good standing with discipline to attend. Grade level teachers determine eligibility. Students may lose the privilege to participate based on the following criteria:

  • Referral
  • Less than 70% Dojo Percentage
  • Excessive Absences
  • Missing Assignments
  • Teacher Communication with Parent for Unique Circumstances
  • Not Putting Forth Effort for Substitute Teachers

Accelerated Reader Goals

We encourage students to read daily. Some books have tests in the Accelerated Reader program, and students can earn points for taking these tests. AR goals for the first grading period are listed in the flyer above. Keep reading, Tigers!
