Welcome to Week 3!

Welcome to another wonderful week at NES! We are off to a great start of the school year! Thank you for sending students to school with their school supplies and ready to learn!!!

Our first set of Students of the Week are announced on Monday. It is very important that we have the photo permission on file for each student (last page of the Code of Student Conduct). 

Also, Student Data Verification Sheets were sent home with students this week. Please look for them in the dark blue parent communication folder, update as needed, and return them to your child’s homeroom teacher. 


Accelerated Reader Goals

We encourage students to read daily. Some books have tests in the Accelerated Reader program, and students can earn points for taking these tests. We always aim at 70% accuracy or higher on these tests. Here are our AR Reading goals for the year: 


Upcoming State Assessments

The State of Florida Assessment of Students Thinking (FAST) window is now open. The assessment are administered as follows:

  • Star Early Literacy - VPK and KG
  • STAR Reading - Grades 1-5
  • STAR Math - Grades K-5
  • FAST ELA - Grades 3-5
  • FAST Math - Grades 3-5

PTO Meeting

Our first PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 22 at 3:30 PM in the Media Center. We encourage parents to attend to help us with important decisions about our school! At the first meeting, we will discuss and map out the fundraisers for the year. Our new library books will be available to review and parental input prior to making them accessible to our students.

It is not too late to place your order! We are extending the order deadline to Sunday so that we can place our order early next week.

Daily Schedule

Our hours of operation are as follows:

  • 7:30 AM Office opens
  • 7:40 AM Parent drop off starts
  • 7:50 AM Students may go to class - bell work time
  • 8:10 AM Tardy Bell - Classes Begin
  • 2:30 PM Cutoff for transportation changes and office checkouts
  • 2:50 PM Students’ dismissal begins
  • 3:15 PM Supervision ends - students who are not picked up will be escorted to the office

If unable to pick up students by 3:15, please consider signing up for aftercare at http://okee.k12.fl.us/aftercare. There are still seats available!


Car Rider Procedures

Dismissal starts at 2:50 PM. Please pull upon the side that allows your student to enter the car from the middle. Students will be called in groups, and cars will not be dismissed until all students in the group have entered their vehicles.

For students’ safety, NES uses Parent Pickup Cards and structured pickup procedures. If you ever need additional pickup cards, please visit our office.

All students have access to the Fortify FL reporting app on their Chromebooks. Fortify FL posters posted around campus to remind students they can report suspicious activity at any time using the app.
