Welcome to Week 18!

Holiday spirit continues to be in the air at NES! Just two weeks to go prior to the Christmas Break - let’s make it count!

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the Christmas Parade on Saturday! Tigers looked amazing as always. 


Florida State Assessment Progress Monitoring Round 2

STAR Early Literacy, STAR (K-2), and FAST (3-5) assessments continue. All students will be participating in these assessments on their scheduled days during the month of December. 


Fall Tutoring Ends

The last day for Fall Tutoring is Thursday, December 15. New permissions slips will be sent home with eligible students at the conclusion of the first round of tutoring. There is no tutoring the last week of school in December.


NES Science Fair 

NES Science Fair is taking place on Thursday, December 15 from 5-6 PM. Please visit us to look at all the amazing boards that our students have made! We also invite families to check out all the Christmas trees that are set up around the campus! 

County Track and Field

Selected students will be representing NES at the District Track and Field event on Friday, December 16. The event will be held at Okeechobee High School. We wish the best of luck to everone participating!

Spirit Days in December

Fridays are Spirit Days at NES. Classes with the most spirit on Fridays will receive popsicles. Mrs. Huerta’s first grade students won the Snow Day Spirit Day this past Friday. Congratulations!!! Who will be the winners of the National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day?




Jingle Gram Fundraiser

4th grade is running a Jingle Gram  fundraiser to support their St. Augustine field trip. Jingle Grams are available for purchase at school until December 16. Order forms were sent home with students.. All Jingle Grams will be delivered to students on December 22. 


Kindergarten Christmas Program

Kindergarten parents are invited to attend our annual kindergarten Christmas Program on Thursday, December 22 at 8:30 AM.


PBIS Days

PBIS Days are just around the corner! Students must be in good standing with discipline to attend.


Heiken Vision Program

The Okeechobee County Health Department has partnered with a program called Heiken to provide free eye exams and glasses to eligible students. They will provide a mobile on site service if at last 30 eligible students sign up. The application is online and can be accessed here: https://mobile.floridaheiken.org/

This program is for ANY student pre-k through 12th grade.

2nd 9 Weeks AR Goals

Students who have met their AR reading goals by December 23 will enjoy a hot chocolate bar on Tuesday, January 10. This 9 week’s goals are as follows:

  • KG: all letters/sounds, 1/2 sight words
  • 1st Grade: 5 points
  • 2nd -3rd Grade: 10 points
  • 4th-5th Grade: 12 points

 

Acaletics Packet

During the last week of school, Acaletics Winter Break practice packets will be sent home with students in grades 2-5. We strongly encourage students to work on these over the break to keep their math skills sharp. Students who return their packet upon their return from the Winter Break will get to enjoy snow cones on Friday, January 13.

School Safety

All students have access to the Fortify FL reporting app on their Chromebooks. Fortify FL posters posted around campus to remind students they can report suspicious activity at any time using the app.
