Welcome Back to School!
We are very excited about the start of school! We hope that everyone is well rested and ready to learn. In an effort to keep our families well informed, a weekly NES News for Families will be shared. Our newsletter is shared on Facebook, on NES website, as well as via e-mail with families who have an e-mail on file in Skyward. You can view past memos on our website at http://nes.okee.k12.fl.us/.
Student Enrollment
If you live in our school zone but have not enrolled your child in school, please visit us on Monday to complete all necessary paperwork. Families are welcome to pick up enrollment packets on Tuesday, but no new enrollments will be made in our office on Tuesday, during the first day of school.
Getting Home
We cannot wait to see our students, but we also want to make sure that we can send them home as planned. Please ensure that your child’s teacher knows how your child is to get home. If you need to make different arrangements during the day, please call our office at 863-462-5100 ASAP and no later than noon on the first day of school. Going forward, all changes must be communicated to the office no later than 2:30 PM each day.
Car Rider Procedures
For students’ safety, NES uses Rider Cards and structured parent pickup procedures. Cars will pull up in two lanes. Please pull upon the side that allows your student to enter the car from the middle. Students will be called in groups, and cars will not be dismissed until all students in the group have entered their vehicles.
Bus Information
Need Bus Stop info? This link will help! Type in your home address, then use the “stops” tab to find the nearest stops.
After Care
If you would like for your child to attend after care, your child MUST be previously enrolled. At this time, the aftercare is full and any new students (or those who completed the paper forms) are on a waiting list. After care starts on Tuesday.
Free Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and lunch continues to be free for all students!
Important Updates this Year
- District Health and Safety Protocols
- Parent Drop Off starts at 7:40 AM.
- Tardy Bell rings at 8:10 (if not in class, students are marked Tardy starting 8:10).
Our campus is closed for visitors outside of scheduled meetings with the front office and/or with the child’s teacher (parents are not permitted to walk students to class). We do invite families to visit us for scheduled meetings and Parent Information Sessions that will be held monthly. Be on the lookout for our first APTT meeting dates!
We do not accept food deliveries (cupcakes etc.). Please limit all deliveries as well as items that you send with your child to items that have instructional relevance.
Sick Students
Sick students should not be sent to school. When students come to the clinic with symptoms that are not explainable, they must be picked up and remain home the following day. Please refer to the district Health and Safety protocols above for details.
School-Family Communication
Please stay in communication with your child’s teacher! Our teachers are using Class DOJO or Remind for important information and additional tips for a successful school year (teachers will invite you to their group). Since the classroom teachers will know your child the best, all academic concerns should always be directed to the teacher. If a satisfactory outcome is not reached after speaking with the teahcer, please contact the school office.
Important Documents
The following documents were shared at the Open House (your child will bring them home this week if you did not get to attend):
- NES Student Handbook 2020 (keep - return the last page with Student-Parent-Teacher Compact with your signature)
- Over The Counter Medication Form (return if authorizing medication)
- Emergency Contact Information Sheet (return for all students)
It is important that you include your e-mail address on the Emergency Contact sheet so that you can continue to be included in receiving important updates from our school.
Chromebook Information
Okeechobee County Schools Chromebook Handbook contains important information about our Chromebook program. Optional Chromebook Insurance is available to ensure that the device that your child is using is covered for accidental damages. Please print and complete the Chromebook Insurance form and send to school with payment by August 31.
School Shirts
2021-2022 T-shirts are available for ordering! Place your order by August 20 by clicking here: 2021-2022 NES School Shirt Pre-Order.
School Safety
Students safety is our priority! A scheduled safety drill will take place during the first week of school. Regular drills are held monthly to ensure that everyone on campus is familiar with the safety procedures.
Additionally, all students have access to the Fortify FL reporting app on their Chromebooks at school. Fortify FL posters posted around campus to remind students they can report suspicious activity at anytime using the app.
Thank you for allowing us to educate your child this year! We cannot wait to see everyone on Tuesday!
Sincerely,
Dr. Tuuli Robinson
Principal of North Elementary School
