Welcome to Week 9!


This is the last week of the first grading period! The last day of the 1st 9 weeks is Thursday, October 7.

There is no school on Friday, October 8 which is a professional development day for teachers.



Disability Awareness Weeks

The first two weeks of October of each year are Disability History and Awareness Weeks. During this time, schools are encouraged to provide information about disability history and promote the awareness of the contributions of individuals with disabilities.


Updated COVID-19 Decision Tree

We will continue to follow the Florida Department of Education updated COVID-19 Symptomatic Decision Tree from September. When students are waiting for their test results, they should not be sent to school. As always - thank you for keeping your child at home when sick! 


Hispanic Heritage Month Art and Essay Contests

There is still time to submit your work for this context! This year’s theme is “Celebrating Hispanic-American Community Leaders and Champions.” The deadline for all submissions is 5:00 pm Monday, October 11. Students in grades K-3 have a chance to win a cash prize by submitting their original artwork, and students in grades 4-12 can earn a 4-year Florida Prepaid Scholarship through the essay contest.

In addition, students, parents, teachers and principals are invited to nominate full-time educators in for the Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award.

Student contest forms and educator nomination forms must be mailed to Volunteer Florida or submitted online at www.FloridaHispanicHeritage.com.


Student Council Reminder

4th and 5th grade students who are interested in participating in Student Council have a mandatory meeting with the Student Council Chair, Mrs. Love on Monday, October 4. The following Student Council Information Sheet was sent home with students who expressed interest in becoming members.

National Child’s Health Day - Monday, October 4 

Monday, October 4 is a National Child’ Health Day, and there will be Health screening for students in 1st and 3rd grade. Kindergarten students’ screening is on Wednesday, October 6. Please return your child’s form that was sent home only if you do NOT want your child to have a Health Screening.


National Walk to School Day - Wednesday, October 6

NES is participating in the National Walk to School Day. We will be walking to school together!!! Families who would like to participate are welcome to meet us from 7:15 to 7:25 AM at the Soccer Field across the street from NES. We will start walking to school at 7:30 AM. 


Coffee with a Cop

On the first Wednesday in October, National Coffee with a Cop Day brings men and women in uniform together with their communities to connect over a cup of coffee. NES is inviting our law enforcement officers to come and grab a cup of coffee at our lobby as a token of appreciation for what they do!


Important Information for Parents

  • Reading Scholarship letters were sent home with students in 4th and 5th grade who scored on level 1 on their 2020-2021 English Language Arts Florida Standards Assessment.

Accelerated Reader Reward Party is Just Around the Corner

Students who have met their AR goal will get to participate in an AR Luau with Mrs. Williams on October 15.  1st grade students should now have 3 points, and students in grades 2-5 should have 9 points. Grade level top readers are recognized on the morning announcements each week!

When students are quarantined, paper packets can be picked up from our office for grades K-1. Students in grades 2-5 have their assignments in their Google Classroom.

PBIS Days

Just a reminder - in order to participate in the grade level PBIS days, students have to be in good standing with their behavior at school as well as on the school bus.

School Safety

All students have access to the Fortify FL reporting app on their Chromebooks at school. Fortify FL posters posted around campus to remind students they can report suspicious activity at any time using the app.
