Welcome to Week 8!


It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the first grading period. The last day of the 1st 9 weeks is Thursday, October 7.

Many events and initiatives are planned between now and then - please get involved where you can and help us finish strong!!!


Makeup Work Opportunities

Recognizing that many students have been affected by mandatory quarantines, we have set up after school makeup sessions starting Monday to allow additional time to catch up with missing assignments. Your child’s teacher will be sending home a permission slip to invite your child to participate in one or more of these makeup sessions if they have missing assignments that are affecting their 1st 9 week grades and require some at-school makeup time.


Updated COVID-19 Decision Tree

Florida Department of Education has issued an updated COVID-19 Symptomatic Decision Tree that governs the return of students who may have been exposed at school. As always - thank you for keeping your child at home when sick!


Recorder Information - Grades 3-5

A recorder unit in grades 3-5 starts in music classes on October 18. Mrs. Walker shared an informational flyer with families last week. Recorders are available to purchase from Mrs. Walker starting Sept. 27th, and they are $5 each.

 

Hispanic Heritage Month Art and Essay Contests

During Hispanic Heritage Month, Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis invite students to participate in the 2021 Hispanic Heritage Month art and essay contests with the theme of “Celebrating Hispanic-American Community Leaders and Champions.” The deadline for all submissions is 5:00 pm Monday, October 11. Students in grades K-3 have a chance to win a cash prize and students in grades 4-12 can earn a 4-year Florida Prepaid Scholarship.

In addition, students, parents, teachers and principals are invited to nominate full-time educators in for the Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award.

All forms and nominations must be mailed to Volunteer Florida or submitted online at www.FloridaHispanicHeritage.com

Parent Teacher Organization Meeting - Thursday, September 30

Our rescheduled PTO meeting will take place on Thursday, September 30 at 5:30 PM in room 137. We will be discussing fall fundraiser ideas to support upcoming student events and initiatives. PTO officers will be elected.



Custodial Worker Appreciation Day - Saturday, October 2

Saturday, October 2 is a National Custodial Worker Appreciation Day. We would like invite all students to make cards or write notes of appreciation to our custodial staff Mrs. Linda Boston, Mrs. Norma Carpio, Mrs. Rufina Garduno, and Mr. Matthew Fraser this week and bring them to their homeroom teacher by Friday, October 1. Let’s make our super awesome custodians’ appreciation day extra special!


National Child’s Health Day - Monday, October 4 

Monday, October 4 is a National Child’ Health Day, and there will be Health screening for students in grades K, 1, and 3. Parent information sheets were sent home last week. Please return your child’s form only if you do NOT want your child to have a Health Screening.


National Walk to School Day - Wednesday, October 6

Save the date!!! NES will be partnering with local agencies to promote the National Walk to School Day. Families who would like to participate are welcome to meet us from 7:15 to 7:25 AM at the Soccer Field across the street from NES. We will be walking to school together at 7:30 AM.

  • Tiger Times Newsletters will be sent home with students this week.

  • Child Tax Credit information is available at https://www.whitehouse.gov/child-tax-credit/ 

  • To access bus Information - click on this link. Type in your home address, use the “stops” tab to find the nearest stops. IMPORTANT: Students should not catch the school bus at a location other than the one that has been assigned to them by the bus garage.

Accelerated Reader Grade Level Goals for the 1st 9 Weeks

1st Grade: 3 points

2-5 Grade: 9 points

Students who have met their AR goal will participate in an AR Luau with Mrs. Williams on October 15.  Grade level top readers are also recognized on the morning announcements each week!

 When students are quarantined, paper packets can be picked up from our office for grades K-1. Students in grades 2-5 have their assignments in their Google Classroom.

PBIS Days

Just a reminder - in order to participate in the grade level PBIS days, students have to be in good standing with their behavior at school as well as on the school bus.

School Safety

All students have access to the Fortify FL reporting app on their Chromebooks at school. Fortify FL posters posted around campus to remind students they can report suspicious activity at any time using the app.
