Welcome to Week 6!

Thank you for reading our newsletter!

We would like to wish a happy Grandparents’ Day (9/11) to all of our NES grandparents! Grandparents are special people who make everything a little better each and every day! Thank you grandparents for everything that you do!

Easy Fundraisers

NES PTO met last week to brainstorm ideas for easy fundraisers. Coca Cola Give is one of them that NES will be participating in this year. No additional purchases are needed - you can simply select to give to NES based on the purchases that you have already made! If you do not want to create an account, we will gladly accept the bottle caps or boxes with codes and enter them for you!

Thanks to some generous PTO members, NES already has $17 dollars in the Coke Rewards account!

New World’s Reading Initiative

There is still time to sign up for the New Worlds Reading Initiative - a free, statewide book program that can help build your child’s library at home. Here is how it works:

  • During each month of the school year, a book will be mailed to
your preferred address, completely free of charge (that’s 9 free
    books per year!).

  • Selected books will be high-quality, age-appropriate fiction and nonfiction texts based on your child’s grade level with genres and topics that appeal to their interests.

  • You can select books in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole or Braille.

  • You will also receive literacy resources and activities to support you in sharing a book with your child, and also help build their confidence and conversation skills.

Click here to enroll: https://www.newworldsreading.com/fl/en/enrollment.html or visit our office for assistance with signing up.

APTT

Our Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) meetings are just around the corner! We hold APTT meetings to keep families up to date about instructional programs, and to share students’ progress in class. Save the date for your grade level meeting!

Out of Field Teacher Notifications

Out of Field Teacher Notifications were sent home with students on Wednesday, September 7. Here is the link to the OOF Teachers in the district this year: http://www.okee.k12.fl.us/out-of-field-notifications

School Store Fundraiser

This is the last week for the School Store fundraiser. Everyone who turned in their envelope has received the prize. Thank you for all the donations for the classrooms as well - our teachers were very happy! The fundraiser ends on Friday, September 16.

State Assessments

Many students have completed their FAST ELA assessments. We still have FAST Math assessments to take. A letter explaining this assessment was sent home with students on Friday, August 19. Click here to access the FAST Parent Information Sheet pictured above.

Families can access students’ scores through Family Portal. To access the informational flier pictured above, click here: Family Portal. Paper copies of student reports will be available and are discussed with families at our upcoming Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) meetings.

Accelerated Reader Goals

We are only half way through the first grading period, and everyone can still have a chance to make it into our first AR event! Our 1st 9 weeks AR point goals to participate in the end of the quarter event are as follows:

  • 1st grade - 3 points
  • 2nd and 3rd grade - 9 points
  • 4th and 5th grade - 11 points

Kindergarten students can earn their way into these events by learning all of their letters and sounds!

School Safety

All students have access to the Fortify FL reporting app on their Chromebooks. Fortify FL posters posted around campus to remind students they can report suspicious activity at any time using the app. Schools are required to advertise that someone who knowingly submits a false tip through FortifyFL may be subject to further investigation by law enforcement, and may be subject to criminal penalties under section 837.05, F.S.

Let’s make it a great week!

Dr. Tuuli Robinson
