At Home Learning

It may happen that your child is excluded from school due to COVID-19. When students are excluded, 2nd through 5th grade students may access learning through their Google Classroom. Kindergarten and first grade students will receive paper packets to make access to learning easier. Chromebooks for grades 2-5 and paper packets for kindergarten and 1st grade can be picked up from our office.

If you have any questions regarding how to navigate Google Classroom or need help with any assignments, please contact your child's teacher via Class DOJO or email. All materials (including Chromebooks) should be returned to school upon student’s return. The diagram below outlines the health requirements for return to school.

Please read the District Health and Safety Protocols for our way of work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chromebook Information

We recommend that all students purchase Chromebook Insurance. This insurance covers the device that your child is using for accidental damages. Please print and complete the Chromebook Insurance form and send it to school with payment by August 31. Okeechobee County Schools Chromebook Handbook contains important information about our Chromebook program.

Additional At Home Learning Resources

Many web based resources are available for students at home. Students can access all these programs through their Classlink  account at: https://launchpad.classlink.com/okeechobee

using their computer login information.

The following programs can also be accessed via these links:

Dismissal Information

Students’ dismissal starts at 2:50 PM. If you need to make a change in how your child is getting home, please call our office before 2:30 PM. If you need bus information, click on this link. Type in your home address, use the “stops” tab to find the nearest stops.

iReady Diagnostic Assessments

Students in first and third grade will be taking their iReady Math assessments this week. The results from these important tests will drive students’ instruction in iReady for the remainder of the semester. Please ensure that your child is at school, on time, to participate in these important assessments!

Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener

Kindergarten students will continue taking the FLKRS assessments this week. Parents can visit https://www.fldoe.org/accountability/assessments/k-12-student-assessment/flkrs/ to learn more about the Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener.

Free Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast and lunch continues to be free for all students! Lunch menu varies this week based on the availability of food items.

Clothing Donations are Appreciated!

To keep the momentum going when accidents happen, NES keeps a clothing closet. We are very low on shorts and underwear (boys and girls, all sizes). We will accept new and slightly used, clean clothes. Stretchy shorts are the best but anything will help. It is a good idea to send change of clothes with kindergarten students in their bakback daily.

Monday, August 23: Movie Monday - Why Do We Get Mad?

  • Everyone feels angry sometimes, and anger is a natural way to keep us safe from danger. Join Sci Kids to tell you why we feel angry and how to control it when getting mad isn’t the right choice.

Tuesday, August 24: Try It Out Tuesday

Wednesday, August 25

  • Words of the Week: Dwarf Planet - some small space objects that are too small to be one. Pluto became a dwarf planet in 2006. Do you think it should be a dwarf planet or shouldn’t be? Defend your answer.

Thursday, August 26 - Think about it Thursday

Friday, August 27 - Fun Fact Friday

  • The smallest bone in the human body is present in your middle part of your ear. It is called the stirrup and is only 2.8mm long.

Saturday, August 28 - Science Experiment Saturday

  • Water Fireworks: Use a glass, water, oil, and food coloring to view a great fireworks display with only a fork to set  them off.

School Safety

All students have access to the Fortify FL reporting app on their Chromebooks at school. Fortify FL posters posted around campus to remind students they can report suspicious activity at any time using the app.

Thank you for allowing us to educate your child this year!

Sincerely,
Dr. Tuuli Robinson
Principal of North Elementary School
