Welcome to Week 29!

Welcome to another wonderful week at NES!

This is a short but busy week. Students in grades 3-5 will complete the district climate surveys. Math Bowl practies are happening, and we are also preparing for the Battle of the Book as well as for the Tropicana Speech competitions.

This Friday is Good Friday and school is closed. 

Monday, Apri 5 is a Spring Break Day and there is no school for students. Our office will be open on Monday, April 5 from 7 AM to 4 PM.

Climate Survey

2020-21 Parents Climate Survey is now open! Please click on the link below to give us feedback. The survey will be open until Friday, April 9.

A paper copy of these surveys is available at our front office if you would like to pick one up, or complete it while you are waiting for your child. Students in grades 3-5 will be completing a student survey at school.

Raptor Visitor Intake System

NES is pleased to announce that we will be piloting the Raptor Visitor Management

System to strengthen our campus safety. Part of keeping our campus safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times. The Raptor system will better allow us to screen visitors in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff. While we do not have many on site visitors this year, this is a good time for our office staff to practice the system so that we are ready when they come once COVID restrictions are lifted! 

A letter explaining the system and how it works will be sent home with each student this week. Meanwhile, please bring your picture ID when visiting our office!                                  

       

National Crayon Day Color War

March 31 is National Crayon Day! For extra fun, each grade level has chosen a color for dress up. We hope your child will participate!

Florida State Assessment Dates

The Florida Standards Assessment is just around the corner! Below are the dates for these important assessments in April and May. If your child has an Individual Education Plan, the testing days vary. A letter explaining the FSA procedures will be sent home with students in grades 3-5 this week.

April 7-8 3rd grade ELA

April 7 4th and 5th grade writing

May 4-5 4th and 5th grade ELA

May 10-11 3rd-5th grade math

May 12-13 5th grade science

Additional Learning Activities and Resources

  • Students in grades 3-5 can access their Acaletics practice tests at http://www.acaletics2.com/ under Math Club Portal. This includes video tutorials for items that they missed on their test.

  • All district programs are accessed at https://launchpad.classlink.com/okeechobee

  • Tutorials on Florida Standards are available at http://www.floridastudents.org/

  • Video tutorials and practice for core subject areas on each grade level are available at https://www.khanacademy.org/

  • Students are encouraged  to complete math practice in Reflex Math (access through launchpad) until they reach a green light, and read at least 20 minutes each day.

Required Self-Screener

Self-screening is required prior to entering campus. Students exhibiting these symptoms at school will be sent home and may return according to the guidelines from our clinic.
  • Temperature 100.4 degrees F or higher 
  • Sore throat
  • New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline)
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain
  • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
  • Chills
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • New loss of taste of smell
  • Congestion or runny nose

And/or,

  • Had close contact with a person with confirmed COVID-19

Additionally,

  • Temperature checks are conducted for students and staff
  • Walk in visitors are not allowed - always call ahead for an appointment
  • Parent meetings are held virtually when at all possible
  • Drop off of non-instructional items is not allowed.

Reports concerning unsafe, potentially harmful, dangerous, violent, or criminal activities, or the threat of these activities, can be made to appropriate public safety agencies and school officials using the following link: https://getfortifyfl.com/Tip.html. All students have access to this reporting tool on their Chromebooks at school.
