National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention month. Everyone can help prevent bullying by encouraging kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Learn what you can do at https://www.pacer.org/bullying/.



Disability Awareness Weeks

The first two weeks of October of each year are Disability History and Awareness Weeks. During this time, schools are encouraged to provide information about disability history and promote the awareness of the contributions of individuals with disabilities.

Report Card Day

Report Cards will be sent home with students on Thursday, October 14. Students' grades can also be accessed via Skyward Family Acces.

1st 9 Weeks Awards 

Students in grades 3-5 who have achieved a high GPA or have been recognized by their teachers for exhibiting exceptional effort and/or character will be recognized at our 1st 9 weeks awards event on Thursday, October 14. Parents are invited to attend, but we will also live-stream the event on Facebook Live for family members who are unable to attend. 

  • 3rd Grade Awards - 8:30 AM
  • 4th Grade Awards - 9:15 AM
  • 5th Grade Awards - 10:00 AM

Accelerated Reader Goals for the 2nd 9 Weeks

Students who have met their AR goal will get to participate in an AR Luau with Mrs. Williams on October 15.  

Here are the AR reading goals for the 2nd 9 weeks:

  • 1st Grade: 5 points
  • 2nd-5th Grade: 10 points

Adaptive Progress Monitoring Assessments

Students in grades 3-5 will be taking their ELA and Math Adaptive Progress Monitoring (APM) assessments at the beginning of the 2nd 9 weeks.


Candy Donations

We are in need of candy donations for our Spooktacular Trick or Treat event. If you can, please donate bags of individually wrapped candy to help with making our event extra sweet! All candy donations are due by Friday, October 22. 

Walker Charter Academy - We have spirit, yes we do! We have spirit how  about you? Show your school spirit on Friday by wearing your favorite  college or university apparel. Don't forget

Theme Days

The follwing T-shirt days for students have been designated for the 2nd 9 weeks:

  • Tuesday - Dress for Success in 5th Grade
  • Wednesday -AVID/College T-Shirt Day
  • Friday - NES Spirit Day

We aplogizie for the delay with the arrival of our new shirts. They should be ready for pickup in the next few weeks!

Updated COVID-19 Decision Tree

We will continue to follow the Florida Department of Education updated COVID-19 Symptomatic Decision Tree from September. When students are waiting for their test results, they should not be sent to school. As always - thank you for keeping your child at home when sick!

 When students are quarantined, paper packets can be picked up from our office for grades K-1. Students in grades 2-5 have their assignments in their Google Classroom.

School Safety

All students have access to the Fortify FL reporting app on their Chromebooks at school. Fortify FL posters posted around campus to remind students they can report suspicious activity at any time using the app.
